Tai Chi - Tai Chi - (Mon) Join us for a gentle, low-impact Tai Chi class designed specifically for Active Adults (50+). Often described as "meditation in motion," this ancient Chinese practice combines slow, flowing movements with deep breathing and mindfulness to improve your physical and mental well-being.
Our certified instructor, Theresa Waldron, will guide you through modified, easy-to-follow forms in a welcoming group setting.
Key Benefits:
Improved Balance and Fall Prevention: Regular practice trains proprioception (the body's ability to sense its position in space) and strengthens leg muscles, which can reduce your risk of falls by as much as 50%.
Increased Strength and Flexibility: The smooth, continuous movements help build muscle strength in both the upper and lower body and improve joint flexibility without stressing your joints.
Pain Reduction: Tai Chi has been shown to be effective in reducing chronic pain associated with conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain.
Enhanced Mental Well-being: The meditative aspect of Tai Chi helps to clear the mind, relieve stress, lower blood pressure, and can improve cognitive function and mood.
Social Connection: Enjoy the benefits of exercise while connecting with others in a supportive and engaging community environment.
Minimum of 8 people to run.

Tai Chi - Tai Chi - (Th) Join us for a gentle, low-impact Tai Chi class designed specifically for Active Adults (50+).

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program - CIT Session II Seymour Recreation Camp is a Town Sponsored Summer Camp that runs from June 23rd - August 1st. Roughly 200 children attend per session. Mon-Fri from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm (9 am - 1 pm for Pre K). Seymour Recreation Counselor in Training (CIT) Program The CIT program is a great opportunity for Seymour 9th & 10th graders to gain hands-on experience as a future Camp Counselor. Program Goal: CITs will assist Senior Counselors in planning, leading activities, and ensuring the safety and fun of campers. Through this, they will develop leadership, child safety, and conflict resolution skills. CITs may be considered for future counselor positions. Expectations:
Work alongside a Senior Counselor to support campers and lead activities.
CITs will be evaluated at the end of each session to ensure they are meeting the goals and requirements of the position.
Requirements:
CIT Requirement: Participants must attend 2 - 2 week sessions. You may choose to attend all 3 Sessions.
Camp Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm (CITs must stay the entire day)
Dependent on camper registrations opportunities will be available in Pre-k Or Rec Camp ( K-5). We will do our best to place a CIT in the camp of their choice. Limited positions are available and dependent on staffing needs.
Available Sessions:
Session I: June 22 - July 2 (No Camp 7/3)
Session II: July 6 - July 17
Session III: July 20 - July 31
Application Process: Apply for the CIT camp online by May 15th. The application will ask what additional sessions you plan to attend.
All CITs must work a minimum of 2 sessions. Each session is $100.
Discounts available: $25 off if attending 2 sessions, $50 off if attending all 3 sessions. CITs are expected to be at camp every day during their selected weeks, as well as attend all field trips.
Interviews will be conducted and positions offered no later than early June.
Communication will be done directly with applicants (not parents) via email. It is essential for CITs to provide a valid email address and check it regularly. Our goal is to help develop strong, independent workers.
Limited spots available depending on number of campers registration For Parents: Please encourage your child to advocate for themselves during the application process. The CIT program is an excellent opportunity to build confidence and communication skills that will benefit them in future employment.
