FIT AFTER 50 - (formerly Senior Fit/Senior Strong)
Thanks to the continued generous support of the Katherine Matthies and Valley Community Foundations, Seymour Recreation is pleased to announce the continuation  of Fit After 50!
The program offers Active Adult Members several free exercise classes a week!

Chair Yoga
This will allow for you to get the benefit of yoga with the assistance of a chair.
Zumba Gold
Zumba Gold is perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.
Strength, Toning, and Balance
This class will increase muscle strength, range of movement, balance, and coordination through a variety of exercises. Light hand weights, balls and exercise bands will be used. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. Suited for all levels. 
Thursdays - Qigong
Taught by Diane Lewis, Qigong Looking for a new low impact exercise class?  Qigong (similar to Tai Chi) is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that are repeated a number of times, often stretching the body, increasing fluid movement and building awareness of how the body moves.
Urban Poling - Outdoor Walking Club (Seasonal) *minimum 8 registrants to run
Looking to Spruce up your walk? Urban Polling also known as Nordic walking is similar to cross country skiing in that it’s a full body workout. This club will be limited poles available (may bring your own) residents, we provide the Poles all you need to do is show up! Group meets at the Community Center on Tuesdays and Various Outdoor Walking Paths on Thursdays.

    -Balance – Improves balance and confidence for walking with four points of contact
    -Off Loading – Takes stress off of painful hip and knee joints

    -Walking- you can walk more, faster and further
    -Posture – promotes and upright posture
    -Cardio- 25% more of a cardiovascular workout then walking

  • April 6 - no class
  • April 13 - The fishery, 7 wakely Street Seymour, go past destination, parking area is on the right
  • April 20 - Chatfield Park, 11 Chatfield Road Seymour or 26 Edward Road Seymour
  • April 27 - Beacon Falls Rec Walk, 130 Pent Road, Beacon Falls. Go past destination and, immediately bear right, parking lot is on right
  • May 4 - Shelton River walk 1, we’ll park in BJ’s at 20 Division street in Ansonia and head out from there
  • May 11 - River walk 2, park in the parking area across from Taco Bell, 205 division street in Ansonia
  • May 18 - River walk 3, park in target, 30 west main st Ansonia
  • May 25 - Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road, Oxford
  • June 1 - The Fishery
  • June 8 - Chatfield Park
  • June 15 - Beacon Falls Rec walk
  • June 22 - River walk 1
