Swim Lessons
We anticipate that these classes will fill quickly. Please register or wait list yourself if the class is full. Waitlist will be accepted and classes may be added based on demand.
We will follow the school closing schedule. If school is closed make-up classes will be added at the end of the session.
Class Descriptions:
Pre-school (3-4yrs old): Help participants feel comfortable in the water. Inform participants on how to safely enter and exit water using ladder and side of pool. How to blow bubbles through mouth and nose, have open eyes (or goggles) under water and retrieve submerged objects, Front and back glides and floats, Roll from front to back and back to front, and how to Tread water. The participants will start to learn water safety and how to gain better confidence in the water. Children should be comfortable in an independent class setting without a parent entering the water.
Beginner(5-7yrs): Participants will learn fundamental skills such as fully submerging and holding breath, bobbing, opening eyes under water and retrieving submerged objects. Class will also focus on, front crawl and backstroke, front and back glides and floats, rolling from front to back and back to front, changing direction of travel while swimming on front or back, and treading water. Participants will learn to jump feet first from side of pool and return to the surface onto their backs. The participants will start to learn water safety more in detail and how to gain better confidence in the water. Child must have basic comfort being in water.
Beginner/Advanced Beginner (7-12yrs or with permission of instructor): Must be able to swim one length of pool. This class builds on the skills learned in beginner class or previous experience. There will be guided practice in deeper water. Children will enter water by jumping from the starting blocks feet first, learn rotary breathing, survival & back float, changing from vertical to horizontal position on front and back, treading water, flutter and dolphin kicks on front, scissors kick, and front crawl and backstroke.
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate (7-12yrs or with permission of instructor): Must be able to swim one length of pool. This class builds on the skills learned in beginner class or previous experience. There will be guided practice in deeper water. Not Offered this session: Stroke Clinic (7-12yrs): This class builds on the skills learned in intermediate class. Children should know the basics of most strokes (front crawl and backstroke and be able to swim one length of the pool doing each stroke. Breaststroke will be introduced and perfecting techniques of other strokes will be worked on throughout the class.
